Summer’s Happen!

I thought I’d show some of the work I’ve been doing for the past few months.

First, I did a couple sculptures for a Stations of the Cross project that crossed and explored some interesting barriers between the Christian & Jewish communities in reference to the Holocaust.

This is in memory of over 1 million Jewish people who died at Auschwitz:

This is speaking about the Wannsee Conference, where discussions wer held about implementing the “Final Solution” to the “Jewish problem” on Jan 20, 1942:

Earlier this summer, I created a new Greenman sculpture, which is completely different from my past Greenman sculptures. This is officially the most detailed clay sculpture I have made to date:

Then I worked on a puppet show speaking out against the gas drilling that is going on in Northeastern Pennsylvania, which will directly flow into Philadelphia’s Delaware and Skuylkill rivers. I worked on numerous puppets for this show including these two:

This is 1 of the 2 puppets representing the Halliburton sales people, who we named “Frick” and “Frack”:

This is an installation I created along with Rob Wetherington, Lina Moysis, Jenna Avallino, Melissa Powell, Mike Heneghan, and Sarah White. We created it over a 7 week period at the space in which we worship together for the season of Pentecost:

Then I went on vacation:

And made a bison bust sculpture named Barret. My friend Jesse Parsons made the beautiful plaque:

And last week, I finished up this pastel of some storytelling concepts that I could talk about for hours. The original sketch was drawn while I was in California in February studying about ecological justice with Ched Myers and Elaine Enns:

And so, these are just a few of the things that have been keeping me busy. I’m having fun and looking forward to an exciting fall of travel & projects!

This Jan & Feb has been keeping me busy with a different exercise of my skills- I’m building puppets at a shop in Manhattan called Puppet Kitchen. Their website is www.PuppetKitchen.com. It’s a great little work environment set literally in an old industrial-sized kitchen that they re-vamped to stir up some puppets!

Most of us at the kitchen are working on a show called ImaginOcean. You can see some of our puppets at www.imaginoceanthemusical.com/. I am currently re-building the 3 main characters of the show for new productions. The show is currently on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. And everything is made with fluorescent materials- it all glows in the dark!

Day of the Dead

I recently finished this commission. The assignment was to make a colorful Dead of the Dead skull and include roses. A fun project!

I like this photo because it shows Jay Beck with my art tattooed onto his arm and screened onto his shirt.

Although the art changed in the process of simplifying for inking, this is the sketch I came up with for his tatoo:

Drumming up Logos

This is a logo design I made for a local group called PhillyBloco! They’re a FANTASTIC samba band who played at World Café Live here in Philly this past weekend, so I grabbed a few photos to show you!

Shakespeare’s King Henry IV, part I

I recently completed work for being Prop Master for King Henry IV, part I, which is part of the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival. It opened this past week and runs for one more week. Come out! It’s a great show!
